Spring in the edible garden Spring is a fantastic time in the garden, the days start to lengthen and the weather warms up. Herbs and Vegetables Growing your own herbs, fruit and vegetables is fun and rewarding and allows you and your family to access produce free of chemicals. It’s also a great activity for children and grandchildren; hopefully encouraging them to eat what they grow! Herbs not only add flavour to your meals but they also have a number of health benefits. Pick frequently to avoid going to seed. Spring is the main herb planting time, mint, paisley, sage, thyme, chives, chamomile, fennel, coriander, basil, and dill will all thrive. Vegies to plant now: Zucchini - ready for harvest in late summer Cucumbers – ready for harvest in late summer Pumpkins – ready for harvest in late summer Sweet Corn – ready for harvest in 10-15 weeks Tomatoes – growing times vary by variety, cherry tomatoes are very popular and prolific.
