Autumn in the edible garden

Herbs and Vegetables

Autumn is a great time to plant as the ground is still warm from the summer months allowing plant roots to settle in nicely.

Growing your own herbs, fruit and vegetables is fun and rewarding and allows you and your family to access produce free of chemicals. It’s also a great activity for children and grandchildren; hopefully encouraging them to eat what they grow!

Herbs not only add flavour to your meals but they also have a number of health benefits. Pick frequently to avoid going to seed. In the autumn months you can successfully grow rosemary, parsley, sage, oregano and mint.

Vegies to plant now:

  • Silverbeet – ready for harvest 5-8 weeks
  • Snow peas – ready for harvest in 6 - 8 weeks
  • Beetroot – ready for harvest in 8-10 weeks
  • Broccoli – ready for harvest in 10-12 weeks
